Concerned Black American Citizens, Inc. is hosting our annual community event fundraiser:

If you can't join us September 20, you can still be part of what we're building by making a donation.  And during Black Philanthropy Month, Givebutter is helping your gift go further.

We're bringing the community together for an afternoon and evening of 70s soul, funk and R&B, dancing, karaoke, spades, food, prizes, giveaways and plenty of fun—all while celebrating the joy, pride and self-determination that defined an extraordinary era in Black America. We'll honor the energy that created Soul City, NC, a vision of Black community-building and economic self-determination. We'll ask ourselves: 50 years later...what are we building next? For us, part of that answer is the Center for Freedmen Heritage & Records and our Reclaiming Our Legacy Initiative.

The Triangle Tribune told our story. Now help us build what comes next.

This August, the Triangle Tribune featured the Center for Freedmen Heritage & Records and our Reclaiming Our Legacy Initiative—our five-year effort to identify, document and reconnect 500 Freedmen descendant families. The article brought new attention to something we have known from the beginning: preserving the records is only the first step. Descendants need access, research assistance, historical context and institutions committed to helping families reconnect the pieces.

That's why we opened the Center. Now we're asking our community to help  us build what comes next.

Buy your $10 advance ticket, make a donation if you can't attend—or do both.  Whether it's $25, $50, $100, $500 or more, every contribution helps us build what comes next.

The records exist. The descendants are here. Now we're laying the tracks to build the institution to reconnect them.

We hope to see you September 20!
